Welcome to the James Laws Photography website. I am very excited to be able to offer you an easy, modern method of exploring prospective photographers to capture your special moments or create lasting mementos of your important event. I am pleased to have already been involved with several families, individuals, wedding parties, schools and other community organizations across the Central Highlands over the last 13 years. My wife, Stephanie and I look forward to many more years of helping people capture their special memories.
My specialty areas are weddings, portraits and family portraits, but I have a wide range of experience and expertise in other areas of photography as well, having held my own exhibitions in 2002 at the Emerald Art Gallery, and winning awards in the annual art competition at the Emerald Art Gallery
Photography has been a life-long passion of mine, becoming a career in 1996, when I established James Laws Photography. For three years prior to that I had worked at CQ News as a weekend photographer. In 2008 we were proud to produce the DVD “Highlands in Flood”, which captured pictorially the devastating effects of the January floods. We were pleased that the production and sale of this DVD helped to raise relief funds for those affected by the floods.
At James Laws Photography we take a candid approach to photography, making the most of the fantastic rural outdoor settings our region has to offer. We are also available for more formal events, such as Debutant balls, Graduations and corporate photography. We have a studio which is also available for sittings. We value highly the importance of pictorial memories, and would be pleased to create albums, canvas prints, master acrylics and gift items including gift vouchers for you and your family. James’ photographs of our family speak for themselves but what you can’t see on film is his patience, professionalism and flexibility.
After providing helpful advice, James was only too happy to let us choose our location for the photo shoot. Our garden was the perfect location to capture our family at play and James successfully included all three generations and even ensured the dog was included!
James showed great patience and professionalism with our two young children, allowing the photos to show their personality as well as the relationships between us. James made what could have been a very trying afternoon as painless as could be.
We also liked that James did not pressure us into a set package of photographs to purchase so it gave us the flexibility of choosing the style and size of photographs that suited us.
His prices are very reasonable too, allowing us to afford for the extended family to have their own special memento. The photo book, designed for us, is a great way of putting a lot of really good photos together to easily share with others.

The worst thing about James Laws Photography is that it's too hard to pick out the best photos to put in an album because they are all so wonderful. After being blown away by the amazing work James did for our wedding in September 2008, and then again with the aerial shots he took of our property in May 2009, there was no doubt who came to take our first precious family photos in October 2009.
